FIRE HAECHI Painting
Cultural Significance : The Haechi (also known as 해태 - ‘Haetae’) is a mythical creature in Korean tradition which was believed to protect people from fires and natural disasters, and also have the ability to distinguish between good and evil. The Haechi is currently the symbol of Seoul, South Korea. This painting in particular was inspired by the formidable Haechi sculptures found at the Gwanghwamun Gate of the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea. I was inspired to make the painting after I visited the palace while studying in Seoul for some months.
Features of the Painting
Painting: Acrylic and gouache on canvas with gloss glaze finish
Dimensions (cm - centimeters): 72.6 cm (height) x 116.8 cm (width) x 2.3 cm (thickness)
